Seattle Police Department: Three more officers, five total reported at Jan. 6 rally in DC
The Seattle Police Department said three more officers were at the rally in Washington D.C. that led to an insurrection in the U.S. Capitol, bringing the total number of Seattle police officers under investigation to five.
In a public meeting Wednesday with the Seattle Community Police Commission (CPC), OPA Director Andrew Myerberg said two officers self-reported they were at the rally on Jan. 6. Later in the day, Interim Police Chief Adrian Diaz posted a statement that said three officers self-reported they were at the rally. Diaz repeated his claim from Jan. 8 that if they were found to be directly involved with the insurrection, he would terminate them
"I made it very clear when I assumed this position, that any violation of community trust or any action that threatens our ability to serve this city will be met with full accountability," Diaz said.
The rally, led by supporters of then-President Donald Trump and urged by the president over false accusations of election fraud, reached a boiling point outside of the Capitol Building as members of Congress were certifying the election for President Joe Biden. Chants of "stop the steal," ruled the afternoon as Trump supporters stormed the building.
