Snohomish County home values soar in latest assessment

EVERETT — Home prices in Snohomish County took a big leap in 2020 as the limited housing supply stoked major demand.

Countywide, assessed home values are up 11%, according to the Jan. 1 evaluation from the county assessor’s office — one of the highest annual increases in the past decade.

Meanwhile, growth in value of commercial properties slowed, with a 3% increase from last year.

On Friday, the assessor’s office will begin sending homeowners their updated assessed values. The new assessments will apply to property taxes in 2022.

We both retire in next couple of years, we are leaving the metro area for someplace quieter.

for property tax hikes. Folks on fixed incomes will be forced out of their homes or have to take out loans against the property just to pay taxes. What happens if values fall again and many people with mortgages are severely underwater.

There’s already a shortage of affordable housing nationwide. This will keep getting worse. Young people today from middle class families are discouraged and depressed. By the time they pay off student loans they will never be able to afford a home like their parents did in decades past.

We are not the fictional land of opportunity any longer.
