Several King County beaches close due to high bacteria levels before busy holiday weekend
Good thing the Washington heat wave is over: several King County beaches are now closed due to high bacteria levels.
The King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks (DNRP) announced Wednesday that Juanita Beach in Kirkland, Lake Wilderness Beach in Maple Valley, and Newcastle Beach in Bellevue are currently closed for swimming after high levels of bacteria were detected in water samples.
Marina City Beach Park in Des Moines is also closed to swimming due to a sewage spill at the Midway Sewer District, according to the Washington Department of Ecology.
Both agencies are advising that residents do not swim or wade in the water at these beaches. It is also not advised that dogs swim at the beaches during the closure. Three beaches are freshwater beaches, with Juanita and Newcastle beaches on the shores of Lake Washington, which often experience closures in the summer months.
