Lewis County Commissioner Gary Stamper dies of COVID-19

Lewis County Commissioner Gary Stamper has died after a five-week battle against COVID-19, Lewis County announced in a news release Thursday.

Stamper represented District 3 on the east end of the county. He died Sept. 29 at PeaceHealth Medical Group in Vancouver, Wash. He was 67.

The Chronicle in Centralia reported that he had been vaccinated against COVID-19.

A former principal, teacher and coach, Stamper served on the BOCC since Jan. 1, 2015. He prided himself on “standing up for the little guy,” protecting the area’s timber interests and promoting economic growth while maintaining the area’s rural feel, according to the county news release.

long as the lumber companies toss grocery, rent and gas spare change to the masses.

These outsiders take a third world capitalist approach to natural resources with the connivance of local officials. Strip it and sell it, move on.

We have to take someone's word for that. Who would have asked to see his vaccination card? Perhaps he was vaccinated, perhaps his partner just said he was.

The guy seems like a really good person
According to interviews with people in town, he donated his time and money to help animals, he was known to buy food for total strangers, he bought groceries for locals who were strapped for cash, cut firewood for the elderly, etc
Someone like that likely was vaccinated.

If more people in his circle of associates, colleagues, friends and constituents had been vaccinated too... then this wouldn't have happened. That's the "herd immunity" that everyone keeps talking about. The vaccine may not be 100% effective for everyone, but it's 100% effective for enough people that they aren't spreading it to the vulnerable or unprotected.
