Long-awaited opening of $1.9B Northgate light rail extension is here
History will be made Saturday when the 4.3-mile Northgate light rail extension opens. The trip from Northgate to downtown Seattle will take just 13 minutes even in heavy traffic.
The opening of the Sound Transit project will alter commute patterns with the addition of three stations at Northgate, Roosevelt and the University District. Some southbound ST Express buses will now end at Northgate station, with others terminating at Roosevelt and U District station. Riders will transfer to the 1 Line.
That the new name for Sound Transit's Link brand in Seattle. While Link becomes the 1 Line, Tacoma becomes the T Line, the heavy commuter Sounder South becomes the S Line and Sounder North becomes the N Line.
One large private enterprise, Northgate Mall, has a new name as well: Northgate Station.

Most of the north end ST busses will terminate to the Link at Northgate and commuters have to transfer if they wish to go further south.
I will be doing this for Thursday night's Seahawks game since the Sounder train does not run in the evenings.
