Seattle Public Schools to suspend 142 bus routes because of staffing shortages
SEATTLE - Starting Monday, Seattle Public Schools will suspend approximately 142 of their 600 bus routes because of a shortage of bus drivers.
The school district says approximately 6,740 students are eligible for the suspended routes but roughly half of those eligible students ride the bus.
Monday is the deadline for school district employees statewide to show that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. This includes bus drivers.
On Friday, the school district sent a letter to parents saying, "We would like to acknowledge what a difficult and challenging situation this has been. Inconsistent bus service is disruptive at many levels and were doing our best to make sure that students can get to and from school safely and as close to on time as possible.
