Amazon won't pursue warehouse plans in Seattle's Rainier Valley
Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN) said late Friday it wouldn't pursue plans for a controversial warehouse development in Seattle's Rainier Valley. The message came ahead of a community rally the following day opposing the languishing plans.
In April 2021, the Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce discovered plans for several possible Amazon warehouse sites, two of which were being considered for adjacent properties near the Mount Baker neighborhood. The properties included the Lowe's home improvement store at 2700 Rainier Ave. S., the former site of Sicks' Stadium. A third site was in Interbay.
The Seattle Times first reported that Amazon decided not to build in Rainier Valley.
"We are not pursuing any sites in the Rainier Valley," spokesperson Alisa Carroll said in an emailed statement. "We weigh a variety of factors when deciding where to develop future sites to best serve our customers. We often explore multiple locations at the same time and make adjustments based on our operational needs."
