Avoid the water at this Whatcom beach. Bacteria has been found there.

Aug. 6—High levels of bacteria have been found at Larrabee State Park/Wildcat Cove in Whatcom County, according to a Friday, Aug. 5, news release from the Washington Department of Ecology.

Whatcom County Health Department issued the advisory and advises people to avoid contact with the water in the affected area until further notice. The state park is at 245 Chuckanut Drive, south of Bellingham.

"Contact with fecal-contaminated waters can result in gastroenteritis, skin rashes, upper respiratory infections, and other illnesses. Children and those who are immunocompromised may be more vulnerable to waterborne illnesses. We recommend showering after swimming and washing hands before eating if you've been in contact with the water or sand," the release states.
