Westbound side of I-90 floating bridge closed until Monday

A major closure of Interstate 90 at Mercer Island will likely cause headaches for drivers trying to get to Seattle, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Crews began closing the westbound side of the I-90 bridge at about 10:25 a.m. on Friday. It will remain closed until 5 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 26. Mercer Island residents will be able to use the West Mercer Way on-ramp to get onto westbound I-90.

Crews will replace a critical expansion joint.

“The Sept. 23 to 26 closure coincides with a Seattle Seahawks home game on Sunday, Sept. 25. Closures during large events are not ideal but in this case it can’t be avoided,” WSDOT Project Engineer Shawn Wendt said.
