Amazon sues Washington state labor agency over safety citation
Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN) is suing Washington state's workplace safety regulator, drawing into the courts a brewing battle between the agency and Seattle tech giant.
In a complaint filed Monday in the U.S. District Court for Western Washington, Amazon asked a judge to stop an order by the Department of Labor & Industries requiring the company to improve workplace conditions and safety practices at its warehouses. In March, L&I hit Amazon with a $60,000 fine, citing a "willful serious violation" of safety rules at the company's flagship BFI4 warehouse in Kent, and also required Amazon to submit a written plan to abate future violations.
Amazon strongly disagreed with the findings and appealed the citation.

According to L&I's March citation, Amazon's processes in its BFI4 warehouse created a "serious hazard for work-related back, shoulder, wrist and knee injuries."
