Cross-examination began late Monday afternoon after the prosecution rested its case last week in Pierce County Sheriff Ed Troyers criminal trial.
Troyer took the stand in his own defense Thursday afternoon and discussed what happened during a confrontation with Black newspaper carrier Sedrick Altheimer on the morning of Jan. 27, 2021.
Troyer shared a different version than what the prosecution, and Altheimer, said happened that morning.
When youre going take somebody out, I dont think he meant to dinner, said Troyer about Altheimers alleged threat. I think he wanted to take me out, like take me out or fight or get me or kill me or something.

(108,034 posts)After a day of deliberation, the jury has found Pierce County Sheriff Ed Troyer not guilty on both misdemeanor counts of false reporting and making a false or misleading statement to a public servant.
Sheriff Troyer would have faced up to a year in jail and a $5,000 fine.
The jury began deliberating Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. and was made up of seven men and three women four acting as alternates.
In October 2021, Attorney General Bob Fergusons Office filed charges of false reporting and making a false statement to law enforcement against Troyer, who earlier in 2021 called law enforcement on a Black newspaper carrier, Sedrick Altheimer, in his neighborhood, claiming to have been threatened.
