Harrell hints at impending moves, including 'significant laws that will be changed'

Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell on Tuesday teased some details of his downtown activation plan, which he first mentioned in last month's State of the City speech.

It's about reclaiming the city, the mayor told over 1,000 people at the annual meeting of the Downtown Seattle Association. Downtown is in much better shape than a year ago but there's still a lot of work to do as the fentanyl crisis "grows at an alarming rate," DSA President and CEO Jon Scholes said.

Harrell said details of his activation plan will be released in four to six weeks and riffed on possibilities.

There will be "significant laws that will be changed" and his administration is examining "some of the zoning laws downtown," he said.
