I wonder if California would integrate into this system? It would create a rail option to cover the entire west coast.

San Francisco is a long way from Portland, and there's a whole lot of nothing going on between those two places. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful place, just not flooded with commerce.
And the California high speed rail has it's own problems. Way over budget, behind schedule, and frankly, something nobody even talks about anymore.
