Does anyone have homeowners insurance with Safeco?

I just got a bill and am paying $298.00 for "Escape of Water from Sump (Building/Contents).

I don't have a sump pump and my sewer line runs downhill about 10' from my basement to the street. I can't imagine any kind of a backup happening. A camera has been run down it twice and the pipe looks clean...there are no roots at all.

Here's a link to what Google said: http://www.commonsensemarkets.com/company_newsletters/Safeco_Homeowners_Tips_Water_backup_endorsement.pdf

What do you think of this charge?

TIA!

I would also install a backflow device Philly Cowboy Apr 2014 #2
That's an option that Safeco "offers" pscot Apr 2014 #3

If so, sounds like you might delete it. (I'm NOT in Washington state, and have no such experience; just using logic.)

If you DON"T have such coverage in a contract, I would NOT pay it, and contact them to tell them so.

that would prevent any crap from coming back up from an overflowing sewer. In the long run, it would be a lot cheaper than the $298/per that Safeco wants.

If your sewer line drains downhill away from the house, you probably don't need it. Call your agent and have it taken off your policy.
