Billionaire real-estate developer Martin Seligs properties have racked up months worth of unpaid Seattle City Light bills totaling nearly $2 million.
Martin Selig Real Estates delinquencies with the city-owned utility stretch back as far as April for buildings in downtown, Queen Anne and Belltown, according to records released to The Seattle Times.
In all, dozens of Selig accounts are more than 30 days past due, for a total $1,934,360, including late fees, according to City Light. Roughly $1 million of that has gone unpaid for more than 90 days.
Seligs firm, which has a history of falling behind on electric bills, has been working to catch up, making a $506,000 payment Aug. 5 and promising to deliver an additional $462,000 Monday under a repayment plan negotiated with City Light.

(112,217 posts)Most of the places where I lived if the customer fell more than a month behind on making a payment or at least a payment arrangement then they would go ahead and turn off the electricity unless there were dire circumstances due to temperature extremes. I don't understand why his business is receiving special consideration and I hope that they are charging extra penalties for the late payments. Some harassing phone calls from the electric company to his personal phone also might be appropriate.

(20,581 posts)of course he is a big wig so that entitles special consideration. What I can't figure is why they are not paying. He must be pretty old so maybe whoever is actually running things is not very good at it?
