Sawant calls for 'fighting movement,' a challenger calls for solutions
Incumbent Seattle City Council member Kshama Sawant decried "the bosses," called for confrontation, even alleged some would turn the Seattle waterfront "into a playground for the wealthy" at a Wednesday labor debate with four challengers.
It was classic Sawant, cheered on by the "Red army," supporters she frequently uses to pack council meetings. Other District 3 candidates received, at most, scattered applause.
But a different theme was heard from District 3 challengers, during the forum at Seattle's musty old Labor Temple on First Avenue.
"Our representative is not working for us: We need leadership that drives for solutions," said Seattle School Board member Zachary DeWolf. Instead of hitting the streets, he promised to head for Olympia and work to get the city authority to limit rent increases.
