Radioactive cleanup at UW to force 200 staffers to move

Following a radioactive substance leak earlier this month, about 200 researchers and staff at Harborview Medical Center Research and Training Building are being forced to move while cleanup continues.

Over the next seven to 10 days, the approximately 200 researchers and staff are moving into other UW Medicine and University of Washington facilities and will remain there until the building reopens.

Three weeks ago, a device called an irradiator containing the radioactive material cesium-137 was being moved to a disposal site when the substance spilled.

Radiation was detected on the loading dock of the building, and 13 people were exposed, with 10 admitted to Harborview's emergency room. They were discharged the next day.

is the total lack of specifics. ALL of the information about this comes from one AP Wire story and the Seattle Times, which has some comments from local officials.

The government never reveals to us the full extent of these "mishaps" and quite frankly, I have lost all confidence in their determinations. Here in Washington, we have every reason to be suspicious. I'll give you ONE word: Hanford.
