Investigators confirm fireworks caused deadly two-home fire in King Co.

KING COUNTY, Wash. — Authorities say that a Fourth of July house fire that spread to another home and killed an elderly man and his dog was caused by fireworks.

The fire happened along 10th Avenue S. in the Highline neighborhood of unincorporated King County. Emergency crews were able to get 70-year-old Roland Kennedy out of the home, but he died at the scene.

Thirteen people were left without a place to live after the fire.

The King County Sheriff’s Office said Monday that investigators determined the fire was caused by fireworks but added that the investigation is ongoing.

We were in serious drought conditions, we were not home at the time. Neighbors, not the ones responsible, came running to try and use a hose to put it out before the firemen got there. It made it all the way to the front flower bed in just a few minutes. The fire department gave them a citation for illegal use of fireworks. They just laughed and said it was the fourth and they had a right as Americans.

It was only a couple of minutes from catching our house on fire. I don't get it, you can go lots of places and see them safely why oh why must you annoy your neighbors and cause damage????
