Quorum Call: Senate to return at 12:01 a.m. after Dems hold up wetlands bill

The Senate is scheduled to come back just after midnight to take up wetlands legislation after Dems objected to a final vote.

As the floor period was winding down, Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald asked the for the chamber to adjourn until 12:01 a.m. to take up the bill. That motion passed 17-16.

Earlier, Sen. Neal Kedzie, the author of the wetlands bill, said the proposal "strikes a reasonable balance" among the stakeholders in the legislation.

The Elkhorn Republican said the bill, in part, responds to suggestions from a legislative audit calling for greater consistency in enforcement and permitting with regard to projects on wetlands.
