Nationwide support behind Scott Walker's fundraising advantage
Madison Gov. Scott Walker racked up his huge fund-raising advantage over his Democratic challenger last year in part because he had more time to reach donors and the ability to tap contributors from across the country because of the reputation he earned through his 2012 recall election.
A Milwaukee Journal Sentinel analysis showed that the Republican governor raised $5.1 million from last July through December, and about half of what he raised from individual donors came from those living out of state.

Walker used his additional time and national reputation to solicit contributions from big-dollar donors. He received 85 contributions of $10,000 from individuals the most anyone can give for a total of $850,000 from the most well-heeled givers.
Six of Walker's top donors were part of the DeVos family that founded Amway's parent company. The DeVoses are active backers of school vouchers, and Walker last year expanded statewide Wisconsin's program allowing families who meet income thresholds to attend private schools at taxpayer expense.
