It could be a game changer. The Menominee Tribe announced a way to pay a big chunk of a new Milwaukee Bucks arena. But there’s a catch.

"Menominee Bucks for Milwaukee Bucks," as Gary Besaw of the Menominee Tribe put it Tuesday. "We have a very nice deal for Wisconsin."

He said the tribe would "contribute $220 million to cover state taxpayers share for a new Milwaukee Bucks arena in downtown Milwaukee," if the Governor Scott Walker goes back on his decision and approves the Kenosha casino, if it "is reconsidered and allowed to move forward."

"In addition to keeping the Bucks here in Milwaukee, this move will free taxpayer money...to be redirected to support the University of Wisconsin, senior care, roads and other critical needs," Besaw said.

"We 100% do not think this is a bribe," added Jim Allen, Chairman of Hard Rock International.

There's a lot on the table, and not a lot of time to think about it. The federal government has given the state until February 19th. Governor Walker has said his decision was final.

If he doesn't allow the tribe to move forward with their casino, he'll face charges of racism, being anti-business and putting his political career ahead of what's best for our beloved university system.

If he gives in, he will tick off those parts of his base who are racists and/or religious (anti-gambling) zealots, and/or those who want to see the university system de-funded.

I wonder which way the Kochs will tell him to go?

Bob Vander Plaats, the president and chief executive officer of The Family Leader, wrote a letter urging Gov. Scott Walker to deny a proposed Menominee tribal casino in Kenosha.

Madison — Influential social conservatives in Iowa are warning Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker that approving a proposed Kenosha casino next month could hurt his presidential bid.

In one of the first tests of his second term, Walker must decide by Feb. 19 whether to approve the $800 million project proposed by the Menominee tribe and backed by Hard Rock International, owned by the Seminole tribe of Florida.

Tom Coates, executive director of Consumer Credit of Des Moines, wrote Walker after his November re-election and sent him a petition against gambling expansion he said had been signed by 600 Republicans, including U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) and both Republican National Committee members from Iowa, Steve Scheffler and Tamara Scott.

"As you are contemplating a presidential bid, I sincerely hope you will consider a 'No Expanding Gaming' policy," Coates wrote.......................

5. And Mike Huebsch responds... "no dice"

Just hours after the Menominee tribe floated the idea of paying $220 million to cover the taxpayers' share for a new downtown Milwaukee arena in exchange for approval of its proposed Kenosha casino, Gov. Scott Walker's administration quickly shot down the offer.

No dice, said Mike Huebsch, Walker's administration secretary. He said the governor will not reverse his decision to kill the Menominee casino.

"We're finding out through news releases," Huebsch said in Madison. "When you get to the point that you're negotiating by news release, you realize that there isn't any validity to these offers.

"On looking at it, I don't believe these are genuine offers that they can fulfill."

They are even dickish in responding to the proposal. The King has spoken and end of story, apparently. And who is Mike Huebsch to instantly evaluate a $220 million proposal, anyway? He's just another one of these high school graduate Walker administration appointees who oozes arrogance.

.......Walker has proposed using $220 million in state appropriation bonds toward the new arena.

The $220 million in bonds that Walker is proposing to issue would ultimately cost at least $380 million when accounting for interest, according to the nonpartisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau.

So far, the Walker plan has had a cool reception in the Republican-dominated Legislature, with leaders suggesting the bond amount should be trimmed to $100 million.

At the Madison news conference, Sen. Van Wanggaard (R-Racine) said if Walker rejected the latest offer on the casino, it would be difficult for him to support Walker's proposed budget that includes bonding for the Bucks. That's because Wanggaard now sees a way for the arena to be built without public funding, he said..........

Iowa leads, Walker rules, everyone can, as Chris Christie said, 'sit down and shut up.'

Having been told that conservative king-making Iowa presidential caucus voters don't like gambling - - or the politicians parachuting in every four years who do - - Walker today added to his previous rejection of the Menominee Nation's proposed Kenosha casino a dismissal of the Menominee's fresh offer of another $220 million that would essentially guarantee the construction of an NBA arena and development district with far less- - if any - - taxpayer contribution - - in downtown Milwaukee to make the casino deal work..............

The Menominee and Seminole Indian tribes were able to do something to Scott Walker no Mary Burke ad, Tom Barrett campaign, protestor at the capitol, or Milwaukee County District Attorney were able to do in his four years, so far, as governor; make him look silly.

After the governor rejected the Menominee plans for a casino in Kenosha, and subsequently unveiled a budget calling for $220 million of public funds for a new basketball arena, the Menominee and Seminoles unveiled their own plan to cover the state's cost for the arena (along with some other pot sweeteners), as long as they could build their casino.

It was a brilliant move on the part of the tribes. A win-win for them (they either get their casino built, or they get a little revenge on the one person responsible for not building their casino) and a lose-lose for the governor. They knew the governor would be ridiculed for not accepting this offer, and ridiculed for changing his mind. He chose the former. I guess there's a reason pride is considered the original and most serious of the seven deadly sins...

And now, the casino is obviously dead. Scott Walker' third term as governor is dying, and his presidential hopes are now on life support. Imagine the Republican primary debates where he gets mocked by Jeb Bush, Chris Christie and the 60 others on the stage for spending tax dollars on a basketball arena, when it could have been built for free!.........
