Lawsuit claims Schneider wrecked $13M supercomputer
GREEN BAY - A scientific research institute wants logistics giant Schneider Inc. to fork over $13 million after a supercomputer was damaged during transit.
Milwaukees Northridge National Laboratory filed a lawsuit against Schneider on Aug. 9 in Milwaukee County Circuit Court. The case since has been transferred to the Eastern District of Wisconsin federal court in Green Bay.
Northridge wants Schneider to pay to replace Bluefire, an IBM supercomputer, cover support technician costs and compensate the laboratory for revenue it could have generated by selling access to the machine.
The lab bought Bluefire from the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colo., in April 2015 and hired Schneider to transport the computer and its cryogenic cooling system to Milwaukee, according to the complaint.
