To be a delegate (get to vote on resolutions and officers) you must be a paid-up member of the Democratic Party by a certain date later in May (can't find the exact date just now but it must be coming up soon) and contact the chair of your county party to be appointed a delegate. If that doesn't work out, you can still come as a guest and register as late as the day of the convention.

Register for convention online: http://www.wisdems.org/events/convention
Join the party online: https://wisdems.zissousecure.com/membership
Find county chair: http://www.wisdems.org/about/county_parties

The first night of the convention, Friday, we mostly hear speeches by elected representatives and others, and afterward there are "hospitality suites" where those attending are offered refreshments. DUers have historically gathered to chat then too. On Saturday there is debate and voting on the platform and resolutions, voting on state officers, and probably more speeches. Another nice feature are the booths set up by many progressive organizations and vendors where you can find out about their work and pick up literature throughout the convention

I will not be able to attend, because the convention is on the other side of the state from me and (unusually so) I will be teaching on Monday, the 10th. But I will come here hoping to see some photos!!

Was offered a chance to become a delegate but had to turn it down due to other commitments. I haven't been to one in five years or so and the thing I miss most is the DU "Caucuses" ....

The last one I remember was in Oshkosh...and as they say..."a good time was had by all"...

Is it too late to register to vote? I would love to hear about the Caucuses and why they don't have them....

from your local county party.

Usually there are a number of issues/resolutions presented and there is a vote of the body on them...it's a good chance for rank-and-file to include their opinions in the platform.

The "DU Caucuses" should have been in quotes because we got together informally after the opening ceremonies (usually involving a lot of beer)and kicked around the issues of party leadership, resolutions, candidate selection, etc..at one time we had a voice on the floor....but time and circumstances have diminished that.

There are still some active DUers at the convention:

Madashell
JackpineRadical
Syblla
Goddess40
Helenwheels
Scuba
Peacenikki
GreyEagle
Dragonlady!!! almost forgot!

I know I've forgotten a lot of the others...

You really should come--we'd love to meet you!
What kind of caucus were you interested in? There are several in the party (Black, Latino, LGBT, Women, etc.). The best way to get to know about all stuff is to attend some county meetings.

I am trying to get delegate status myself. It's been crazy busy for me at work and I sprained my ankle pretty badly the other day. I hope I'm healed up by then... :/

We'll have to arrange an informal get together as the date approaches.
