The notification letters reignited the debate over Walker's decision to reject additional federal money to expand BadgerCare. U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.), a strong supporter of the federal law, wrote a letter to Walker on Monday saying his approach could lead to confusion or loss of coverage among some BadgerCare recipients.
"Instead of playing political games with people's health care and calling for repealing, defunding or delaying the ACA, it is my sincere hope that you will lead on the law's implementation because you have a shared responsibility to make sure it works for Wisconsin," Baldwin wrote.

(9,117 posts)At this stage I've grown very depressed about the awareness And political engagement of the America voter. I can't help but wonder how many of the soon-to-be-dropped voted for Walker in the general election and sat out the effort to recall him?
Well, unlike the progressive sand moderates who knew better, the do-nothing's and the brainless righties are about to get a taste of what they voted for.

(36,063 posts)In real numbers, poverty in Milwaukee dominates the picture, and the philosophies and political agenda of the teahadists is strongly anti-urban and thereby anti-Milwaukee.
The lawsuits over failing to enroll people in Badgercare have primarily been coming out of Milwaukee. That program was supposed to be capped at 50K, but at one point enrollment stalled out at ~25k with more than 120K eligible but "on a waiting list."
With respect to voting for Walker, these poor people tend toward low turnout when elections don't include national offices. It's rather unlikely that even a large fraction of them voted for Walker, but low turnout, and failure to vote against is likely to have contributed to saving Walker's ass in the special election/recall.
IMO things are bad, worse than Mississippi bad, in several of Milwaukee's districts. People trapped there have given up any hope that local and state governments can make a positive difference in their lives.

(4,949 posts)Joint Finance Committee Republicans followed through on Gov. Scott Walkers February announcement that his administration would not seek some $4.4 billion in federal money to expand BadgerCare, the states Medicaid program.
The committees decision turns down nearly $500 million in additional federal dollars over the next two years.
Republicans did, however, approve spending an additional $72 million to compensate Wisconsin hospitals with at least 6 percent of annual inpatients covered by Medicaid. About $43 million of that appropriation would come from the federal government.

Confused by Letters You Get about Badger Care?

Kicked off? Not kicked off? Practical advice from Legal Action of Wisconsin to be shared with anyone and everyone!
What should you know if you get a letter telling you that your BadgerCare Plus or Core benefits may be ending.
You may soon get a letter telling you that your BadgerCare eligibility may end at the end of December because of your income. The letter also tells you to apply for health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace.
If you receive this letter, heres what you need to know
You may still be eligible for BadgerCare in 2014 because the income counting rules are changing. BadgerCare will not
start using the new rules until January 2014......
