http://wpr.org/shows/state-capitol-report-walker-president-van-hollen-governorAccording to Joy Cardins guest political strategist, Scott Walker will not seek reelection for governor and instead will set his sights on a 2016 presidential run. He also says the reason for J.B. Van Hollen not pursuing another term as attorney general is so that he can run for governor next year. He elaborates on his predictions in the State Capitol Report.
It is not that we suspect the governor has an eye on the White House and plans to contend in 2016. This is pretty much certain.
What we suspect is that, because of this overriding ambition, he will not run for re-election as governor in 2014.
There are two reasons for this course of action.
The road to the White House does not run through Wisconsin. Too many potholes.
While the governors electoral history has been unbelievably lucky from the day he decided to take on the scandal cripple running Milwaukee County through an easy re-election campaign there to riding the 2010 tsunami to Madison and warding off a recall because many voters disliked the recall process more than they disliked the governor, this string could well run out next year.
If it does, he would enter the 2016 presidential race as an ex-governor or as a governor who won re-election by the skin of his teeth.

(30,058 posts)Could happen and Palin is looking for someone to select her as VP running mate. I just hope somebody smart in the GOP will step up and squash them. I don't like Scott Walker or Ted Cruz or Rick Santorum, enough of the crazy crap.

(3,577 posts)Perhaps the Republicans know the John Doe II prosecution has Walker dead to rights and he has no chance to win another election for governor. So they have decided to have Van Hollen ready as their new candidate for governor.

(4,949 posts)The oligarchy prob. knows Wanker is a loser/has been nation wide. They prob. are well aware of the federal special prosecution investigation of Wanker & Fitzgerald that has been going on for > 1.5 yrs. now. They are too prudent to take the risk that if Wanker & Co. have to take the same perp walk that Blagojevich did that there would be an empty hole in their control of WI. So supporting Wanker in his delusions of becoming president of the USA is their way of letting him fail. Then they could easily be rid of him & blame the electorate. Van Hollen would already be in place.
The Democratic Party of WI has not over these past 4 yrs. produced a really viable candidate to oppose the RW'ers!!!
I totally favour Kathy Vinehout for our governor but She does not have the name recognition & political "machine" yet to win. Hardly anyone outside Her district even recognizes Her face. Democrats really need to push for public education of our problems & potential solutions starting yesterday!! Yes it's hard but just e-mailing their members & long time supporters is a recipe for failure!

Van Hollen - I don't know. He might just head to the private sector, where he can pull in bigger bucks.

(4,949 posts)Scott Walker will run in my book. Van Hollen would not be a lock for the republican nomination if Walker decides not to run.
