Wyoming legislators propose bills to fight education funding deficit

CHEYENNE – Two state legislators recently proposed two bills they believe will help offset the education funding deficit the state is facing.

But some school district officials are not happy with the plans.

Sen. Hank Coe, R-Cody, and Rep. David Northrup, R-Powell, co-chairmen of the Joint Education Interim Committee, proposed the bills at the committee’s interim meeting Nov. 14-15 in Casper.

“This just starts us down the road to addressing what we know is an immediate problem in the next biennium coming up. We’re short $1.8 billion by 2021, based on current projections from CREG, the Consensus Revenue Estimating Group,” Coe said.
