B.C. will begin a three-year decriminalization experiment, allowing drug users 18 and over to carry up to 2.5 grams of opioids, cocaine, methamphetamine and MDMA.

It’s an experiment that’s likely to influence drug policy across Canada.

1. They haven't been arresting people with small amounts since 2020.

But they were connfiscating the drugs. Here they don't confiscate if it is an amount the size of a quarter. Hopefully the addicts need to steal less and get to a safe injection site.

2. I'm astonished at the number of BC residents who think this is a bad thing.

One guy posted “just stop reviving them with narcan- problem solved!”

Many, many refuse to see addiction as anything but a bad choice.

3. It is a whole generation who are going down. Those people

who say things like that will depend on this agegroup to fund their pensions and cpp when they retire and get old. I knew a girl on methadone. She was a great employee at a call center. She would just step out to the pharmacy at lunch then go on about her productive life. Crime has been reduced by this policy. Less crime, more people to pay into the system when they have a healthy recovery. Win win
