The Queen Elizabeth Park Quarry Gardens, the Dr. Sun Yat Sen Chinese Garden in Chinatown (that means you get to see Chinatown, too), The VanDusen Botanical Garden, Stanley Park Gardens, and the UBC botanical gardens.

If you will still be there, the Vancouver folk music festival starts on the 19th, and it's great fun.

Gastown's Victory Square Park almost always has something going on; this week it's outdoor music, dance and film.

There's the Vancouver maritime museum if you are interested, The Museum of Anthropology (also at UBC. Worth taking some time to visit UBC's public facilities), the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Museum of Vancouver also has a space facility. It's worth touring historic buildings, too!

The waterfront is great, and there's lots of Haida history and living history there, too.

There's lots of good stuff to see.......I just picked a direction and wandered!

Top North American cyclists race in a criterium for 50 laps around a few city blocks. Free to watch, and it's one of the most exciting sporting events you'll ever see.

Women's race starts at 6:15pm, Men's at 7:30.

Drive up and grab some food and a walk in Horseshoe Bay, take a ferry over to the island, drive south two hours (check out the little tows & wineries), check out Victoria and surrounding attractions (maybe grab a hotel), and come back via Tsawassen. Its a great two day trip

whistler if you have the time/inclination (expensive and touristy) Hell's Gate if you're up for a day trip. It really depends on what you're interested in. I think the Sun Yat Sen garden is a must see too. The night market in China town is pretty cool too.

I'd be more helpful if you were in Victoria, as that's where I live.

We've been having lovely, though somewhat hot weather of late. How long are you here for and what type of activities are you interested in? Vancouver is a wonderful place for outdoors fun. One must do thing is a walk around the Stanley Park Seawall. Start at lost lagoon and walk around the wall, under the Lions Gate bridge, around the west side of the park to Thrid and Second beaches. End your walk with a stroll along Denman and or Davie street. This is about a 9 to 10km (about 5.5 mile) walk so make some time for it, but it's almost all flat and a MUST do if the weather is nice like this.

A couple of trendy neighbourhoods you might want to check out here include Commercial street, Kitsilano, and Point Grey. All of those are hip artsy communities with lots of cute restaurants, cafes and, art galleries and the like.

Here's a list of 25 free things to do here:
http://www.tourismvancouver.com/do/activities-attractions/free-almost-free/25-free-things/

If you have the time and a car I HIGHLY recommend the short drive up the Sea to Sky highway up as far as Squamish. This is about a 30-40min drive each way with stunning views of the water and mountains.

If you want some history there is the museum of anthropology out at UBC.

I believe others have recommended Ganville Island. Basically it's an artists colony with tons of shops, restaurants, and other hip things to see. It's a bit touristy but worth it.

If you want a REALLY challenging, but short, hike there is the grouse grind. The views at the end are amazing and you can take the cable car back down (though you have to pay).

There are lots of other things to do here. Vancouver is fairly well known as a very good wine and dine city as well and there are tons of amazing restaurants here but I leave that for you to Google as it's hard to recommend that kind of thing IHO.

Have a great time here!

BTW where are you from?

I am here from my blue blue oasis of Houston Texas. Hot there has been in the 90's-100's.

I have seen Ganvill, and we had brunch at the Alibi. We walked through Gastown, and the Vancouver aquarium. The Museum of Anthrropology is on my list. I haven't figured the transport system yet.

Please pm me.
