Whats with Canada Post? The way it handles itself suggests a deliberate strategy of self-destruction.
The post offices latest misstep is its ill-starred attempt to tack a $5 surcharge on parcels delivered to Fort McMurray, Alberta.

Canada Post finds its customers inconvenient: Mallick
Canada Post CEO Deepak Chopra is up for a spray of awards this year, possible winner of Best Director in Comedy (ongoing series, three decades and over) and Best in Shy, for directors/CEOs who are scared of the camera. The man sets records. He is like no other.
He will also win Best Delivery of a Line because no one else is nominated such things he says! and of course the sadly not-much-coveted Best Non-Delivery of a Line (postal category) because I could not resist.

(5,604 posts)the one thing that worries me most though will be Harper's judicial appointments, and the fact that were locked into 30+ year FIPAs with China and CETA. Maybe TPP by then too.

(140 posts)The goal is to privatize. Up until a couple of years ago, it was making money. A successful crown corporation? Not something the PM wants to see. An election is coming.

(5,562 posts)Mr Chopra used to be a ceo in Pitney Bowes. Conveniently, after he took over Canada Post, he automated the mail sorting to the tune of over a billion dollars with Pitney Bowes machines. This is when Canada Post started losing money. Now the workers don't get a bonus anymore but the managers still get bonuses based mostly on how many working hours and jobs they can cut.
As for Fort Mac, who in their right mind would live in that hellhole and work for Canada Post for $40,000 when the average wage up there is something like $100,000. Your post office wages wouldn't even cover the rent.
