MONTREAL — Some U.S. doctors are urging patients to get checked out for a potentially deadly genetic disease they say was passed down from French-Canadian forefathers.

The hereditary ailment causes dangerously high cholesterol levels and is particularly prevalent in certain parts of Quebec.

Maine cardiologist Dr. Robert Weiss said there is an unusually high number of cases of the disease in the region near the city of Lewiston, which welcomed waves of French-Canadian migrant workers in the late 1800s.

Weiss encourages area residents with francophone ancestors to get tested for familial hypercholesterolemia — even if they have no family history of cholesterol problems

Desert dwelling peoples often have evolved digestive tracts as much as 9 meters longer the what we consider normal. Mostly the small intestine.
A Big Mac, a milkshake, and a case of beer a day creates big health problems for them. Especially obesity. If you can trace your ancestry back far enough, you may find the fuel you are custom built for. I have been lacto vegetarian for 45 years and never had problems.
If you must get old, listen to wive's tales. I was slammed by arthritis and found not eating fried foods solved the problem entirely!
I love your sig.
