Labour row with Lib Dems deepens as Sadiq Khan urges Jo Swinson to support unity government

Splits in the anti-no deal alliance of MPs in parliament threatened to stymie plans to stop a no-deal Brexit on Friday, as Conservatives and independent MPs ruled out backing plans brokered by Jeremy Corbyn.

The row between the Liberal Democrats and Labour deepened as the mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, urged the Lib Dem leader, Jo Swinson, to seriously reconsider Corbyn’s offer to head a temporary government to stop a no-deal Brexit. The Lib Dem’s former leader Vince Cable demanded Corbyn name a unity figure whom he would back if his plan failed.

Corbyn’s hopes of forming a unity government were fading on Friday as a number of prominent Conservatives working to stop no-deal Brexit ruled out any mechanism to put the Labour leader in No 10.

Dominic Grieve, who has previously suggested he could vote against the government in a confidence vote, said he would not go as far as facilitating a Corbyn government. “Jeremy Corbyn is unfortunately a deeply divisive figure and in trying to stop a no-deal Brexit it is not my purpose to help him into Downing Street,” he said.

Cameron for 5 bloody years, and now she is balking at the Lib Dem's self-expressed raison d'être, ie. stopping a No Deal Brexit, all because she has the sadz over Corbyn having a few weeks at the head of a temporary government. Same goes for those bastard Tory remainers. It is not like Corbyn is being given the keys to the lorry and a 5 plus year term. I am wit's end on this whole nightmare.

Corbyn's proposal is realistically the best hope of delaying or derailing the disastrous project to leave the EU, and opponents of this madness need to put petty rivalries aside and work together to resolve this. Jo Swinson's proposal of a Kenneth Clarke / Harriet Harman lead government is reasonable, but has to be a plan B in the event of Corbyn's plan falling through.

The biggest problem with Corbyn's proposal is Jeremy Corbyn's unsuitability for high office. However, with a dishonest charlatan currently in Downing Street and the prospect of crashing out of the EU with no deal looming Corbyn has to be the lesser of two evils. I seriously doubt that Corbyn could stay long in Downing Street even in the best circumstances.

Part of the problem here is the approach of Momentum / Labour, who seem more interested in shifting blame for the oncoming disaster and calling everyone else all the names under the sun than in anything else. This in turn creates serious mistrust of Momentum and Labour from the people they need to persuade in order to put Corbyn in Downing Street.

To be honest, the more bile I see thrown by various political factions at present, the more convinced I am that we need major constitutional reform to increase checks and balances. Also to force all the different parties to work together. We have a political culture in the UK based far too much on tribalism and hurling insults. Which makes it very difficult when politicians and their supporters are required to work together!
