that as a cynic, chronic whinge-er, not terribly into sport, who expected the Olympics to descend into chaos - I thought it went really well!
I may feel differently when the taxpayer starts having to pick up the bill, but right at the moment - congratulations to the athletes AND to the organizers. But not to David Cameron, who acts as though he's personally won a gold medal.

(4,972 posts).... but I'm glad it's over and we can get back to real life.
And Radio Skin predicts that - as with the aftermath of Beijing (anyone old enough to remember that?) the "Legacy" and euphoria will be over by Christmas, to be replaced by Millennium-Dome -like stories (anyone old enough to remember them?) about what to do with a boatload of extra high-tech buildings that nobody can think of a use for.
As for the nasty political spinning, it's already started. See above.

(15,445 posts)all of you Brits can give yourselves a gold medal for excellence.
But, watching Cameron try to capitalize on it is laughable. He'll milk this for all it's worth.
Hope he doesn't get a popularity bump for something he had nothing to do with. It was a Labor government that won the bid in the first place.

(14,737 posts)The actual sport went well, the opening ceremony was specacular and despite the warnings of impending armageddon things ran alright.
However, I remain very firmly of the view that the Olympics are the ultimate public sector white elephant project and that it is a mistake for any city to go in for hosting the event.
