2. As of now, I would say yes.

WV is a solid red states. Republicans have top tier candidates(Alex Mooney and Jim Justice). All of the Democrats need to unite behind Manchin in order for Manchin to avoid being Blanche Lincolned(AR 2010).

3. No way to avoid it

Manchin won the last time around by a tiny margin and has lost lots of democratic support. While Justice won by something like 30 points.

It’s far more likely that Manchin either retires or runs for governor again. No other democrat would have a chance
