Firefox --
Since I put Firefox on my computer, I've lost my Adobe Flash player and don't understand the instructions. Seems every download with Firefox is more complicated?

Also still trying to move my "favorites" onto Firefox from IE/Yahoo --
This isn't helping --

Is Firefox calling "favorites" bookmarks?
Aren't they two different things?
You bookmark something to read later.
Favorites refers to stored links to websites.

(86,703 posts)are synonyms. Adobe Flash player, as with most downloads have separate code for the various browsers - like some of the terminology (ie, bookmarks/favorites). Bookmarks on DU are a slightly different animal as the function is unique to your acct on DU and not accessible outside of DU.
Disable McCaffee, it could be part of your problem too as it will interrupt some downloads. I use Avast for my protection and rarely have issues with it. You can find other free security systems to use, and I use Ghostery as an add-on to Firefox... it kills ads and tracking.
Using Firefox I find that Adobe Flash seems to need to update regularly but it is not difficult... I select the "must notify me when updates are needed" option, I don't like stuff that just updates at will.
Try that, see if it helps.
Re McAffee, I unchecked the box for it to be included and just checked my programs and didn't see it so trust I'm OK there. I'm using AVG and AdBlockPlus and think I'm OK there.
Basically, in putting Adoble Flash on my computer over 15 years have never seen instructions like this. Have no clue on how to carry out their instructions.
And the last time my favs were transferred, my daughter did it. Don't recall how but remember her opening the links and somehow copying them. Don't know what she did after that.

(8,543 posts)Internet Explorer uses ActiveX for Flash so that will not work in FireFox - that's why you need to install a different version.
Follow these instructions to import your Internet Explorer favorites and other settings into FireFox:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/import-bookmarks-internet-explorer
And yes, Favorites in IE = Bookmarks in FF.

(176 posts)I actually think I can follow those directions, but I'm holding off because everything in Firefox is faster, but also more complicated to do.
When I tried to add a website before to "bookmarks" I got a drop down box with options and asking for names. Another example when I want to knock down one of two or three Firefox screens, I'm getting this message:
"Confirm close
You are about to close 2 tabs.
Are you sure you want to continue?
(an already checked box) Warn me when I attempt to close multiple tabs
Then two options - Close tabs OR Cancel"
Where's the option to simply close one tab?
Whatever happened to simply being able to knock out one screen?

(86,703 posts)I learned something there about ActiveX and Flash. I shut off most Microsoft stuff so I lost familiarity.

...simply double click the .exe to install new & overwrite/uninstall old version DIRECT download links:
Flash Firefox etc (Direct) http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/support/install_flash_player.exe
Flash IE ActiveX (Direct) http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/support/install_flash_player_ax.exe

(176 posts)and I've clicked on the firefox link twice now and hit install and save and nothing happens.
Presume "exe" is the link?
When I've double clicked on the link a set of options comes up and have no idea which one to choose. ??!! I'm pitiful.

(3,554 posts)When I *single* click the first link above this is what I get in FFox (my default browser):
When I *single* click the first link above in Internet Ex-PLODE-r (ugh, YMMV!) this is what I get at the bottom of the browser page:
If you can post back:
1) what browser/ OS you're using it would go a long way toward me/other DUers providing more explicit instrux.
2) Posting a screenshot of your aforementioned "set of options (that) comes up" would be even better.
Posting a screenshot Mozillazine: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Posting_a_screenshot_on_the_forum#Windows

(3,554 posts)Here's a blow-by-blow/ how to to install Flash in FFox using my link above:
Click the link, select the "save" box
One of 2 things will happen next, depending on settings/personal preferences, my choice was to have FFox always ask, you can also set it download to a static folder/place in Options/General tab:
1) If you set FFox to "Always ask" (as I have) a dialog box will open asking you where to save the download...I usually select "Desktop" and keep the default File name & Type (as highlighted below) click the "Save or OK" button:
2) If you have it set to save in a default location (such as Downloads folder) the file will d/l to that location.
3) Go to that location and Rt-click the d/l, in the drop down menu that opens select "Properties" (usually on the bottom) In the ensuing dialog box that opens select "Unblock" & then OK. (Security measure if you "know" that the file came from a "Secure" location):
4)In the ensuing box select "I have read...License Agreement" (I usually don't unless I'm d'ling something from a "dodgy" site or something that may try to sneak in a Toolbar or "other" software(s))then click install. The installer will overwrite/uninstall older version & install latest:
5) In the next box select your Update preference-- I select "Never" --YMMV! -- Then press Done.
Congratz, you've installed the latest version of Flash!
