Canon Software Question

Hi, I'm going to x post this question in the Photography group, too.

OK. I had (ha, there's the problem) software installed on my laptop
via a Digital Solution disc that came with the Canon camera that I used
for managing photos. When I connected the camera to the laptop
and turned on the camera, a window would automatically come up
and offer me the option to transfer untransferred photos from the
camera to the laptop. It was great.

So, I bought a new camera--also Canon--and yesterday I installed
the software for it that came with the camera. I'm going on a trip
Monday and not sure I want to tote the new, heavier, camera with me.
BUT, when I installed the new software, it turned off the capability
to transfer photos from the old camera to the program that was installed
with it. It also transferred all the files (photos) from that program to the new
program.

Shit. I don't want to have to work in the new software program if I decide
not to bring the new camera. I want to go back to being able to transfer
the photos from the old camera to the program that was installed with it.
So, I uninstalled the new program, but the old one did not revert to asking
me the question when I connect the old camera to the laptop if I want
to transfer untransferred photos? Everything else is still there--all the files--,
etc., EXCEPT the ability to transfer photos from the camera to the laptop.

So,I've been through the user manuals and I've determined I can uninstall
the old software program, then reinstall it with the disc that came with the
old camera. HERE'S THE QUESTION: If I uninstall just that software--only the
Canon Utilities Zoom Browser EX files, will it also uninstall all the photos that
are in it? OR, since the user manual says the photos were put in a new file
(I can access them through Pictures Library--Windows Live Photo Gallery--)
will the photos still be there after I uninstall the software and reinstall it?

Bottom line, I want to be sure I don't lose the previously transferred photos.
If I lose the ability to access them through the Canon software, I don't care,
as long as they will still be on the laptop in the Windows Live Photo Gallery.
But I want the ability back to transfer new photos from the old camera to
that software program without having to deal with the new software program
if I decide not to take the new camera on the trip. I don't see any other way
to get back that feature unless I uninstall the old software program and then reinstall
it.

Thoughts?

You could make a separate folder and copy all the photo files to that folder TexasTowelie May 2014 #2

They say they'll respond within 8 hours. I hope so.

then use the installation disk from your old camera.

More than likely you won't lose the old file photos, but if you did then you will have backed them up to the new folder.

Back in business. Canon confirmed I wouldn't lose photos when uninstalling/reinstalling the software.
