That was interesting.

Online and suddenly everything stopped responding. Not even 3-finger salute worked. Hit Reset and nothing on monitor. Plugged in different monitor and still lots of nothing. Unhooked everything and put case on workbench. Take out graphics card and put in a different one. We have liftoff! Shut down and put original graphics card back in. We have liftoff again. Shut everything down,move case back to desk, hook up about a dozen wires and cables, and everything works fine.

As I tell people, it's all FM-Fucking Magic.

manages to make a bad connection. Taking it out and putting it back scrapes off the schmutz.

Worse is when thermal expansion screws up a bad solder joint in one of those bazillion chips or capacitors, or something else. In the old days I'd have half a chance of tracking it down, but now I think they just throw the whole mess away.

But, yeah, fucking magic works.
