My desktop computer went belly up
I am not sure if it can be revived. Home built. MSI K9N4 Sli motherboard with athlon 64 x2 3000 cpu and 8 GB Ram.
It was running, but the system temperature as reported by speedfan was steadily climbing. I shut it down at 45-46 deg C. It hasn't booted since.
It never even gets to a RAM test judging by the led diagnostic that came with the motherboard. Kind of acts like a cpu problem, but I am wondering if the winbond chip is the problem. The next step I planned is to take out the motherboard and hose it down with electrical cleaner. Any advice welcome.

(47,165 posts)that speedfan could not control the cpu fan speed anymore. It used to work! So I thought I would shut it down and do some cleaning, and now its dead. LOL. Fuck!

Will it boot into BIOS?

(3,655 posts)it may have gone belly up. Do you have another to try?
You could also try unplugging everything except the cpu and a minimum amount of RAM. Is there a motherboard speaker to give beep codes?
BootinUp
(47,165 posts)Have already stripped the system to nothing but cpu and one stick of ram. The boot diagnostic led hardware that came with the motherboard helps to troubleshoot boot problems. It never gets past the first step (cpu).

(3,655 posts)If that doesn't do it you could try a different cpu. I just looked on ebay, you can pick up an X2 6000 for around $20. That would turn the failure into a good thing.

(22,651 posts)could just be a bad fan or one of the power components.
unplug the comp. from power, hold down the tiny reset button (under a tiny light in back of comp)for 10 seconds.
Plug power back in, wait a minute and try to start, use the regular power button.
If that doesn't work repeat the unplug & reset button, except this time after you hook the power up again, depress the tiny reset button and see if the tiny light goes green and the fan starts.
If no green light or fan, you have a fan or power component problem.
