Just installed updates and restarted. Restart stalled at configuring updates 30%
Windows 7 pro. Been over half an hour now. I assume if I shut down and reboot, the updates will resume or something?
I switched to my other computer for now, but it's slow.

(37,457 posts)If it does not, you'll probably have to start all over again, I'm afraid.

(2,805 posts)With just shutting down (holding power button to force shutdown) when Windows updates take too long. It will just marked the update failed and try again later.
I wouldn't worry about it not starting properly if you power down, I've never had a failed update cause major problems.

(88,117 posts)It's really odd, never had this happen on this computer.

(2,805 posts)But in my experience if the updates don't install properly within a couple of minutes they never will. A restart is the only solution despite Windows' warnings about not shutting down.

(2,805 posts)If one update is dependent on a previous update when they all come down at once there is sometimes a problem.
You should be fine just trying updates again since the necessary one may have already been installed.
Worse comes to worse you have to manually select one update at a time until the rest install without problem. This shouldn't be necessary in most cases since this is a clean install and just a lot of updates coming in at one time causing a hiccup.

(88,117 posts)I had to go to Windows Update for them to check, and they came up with the ones that didn't install.
It was a huge amount today. Much more than usual.

(34,589 posts)One hung on #2, so I restarted it and updated through the updater app instead of by shutting down. That worked.
