(37,457 posts)1. try malwarebytes first
https://www.malwarebytes.org/downloads/
After you install it, make sure to disable Windows Defender in Control Panel. You have to click the little > sign to make sure you see every icon in Control Panel. It's in the Settings area of Windows Defender where you turn it off temporarily.
Then run Malwarebytes. If I were you, to be safe, I'd run an antivirus as well, like Avira. Again, before you run Avira, you have to disable Malwarebytes or just uninstall it. You CANNOT run two antivirus at the same time, or you will have problems.

(37,457 posts)6. this is why you need to run an anti-virus program as well.....
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is not meant to be a replacement for antivirus software. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a complementary but essential program which detects and removes zero-day malware and "Malware in the Wild".

He may be the most reputable guy around but you never know.
If he's not a good guy he could have installed some malware
just to show you it is infected.
