How do I have files with # chars in an .m3u playlist file be recognised by vlc? (Solved)

This seems a simple matter to me, but my google-fu isn't providing the answer.

I create m3u files by hand, but vlc has trouble recognising filenames with accented chars and #-signs. I understand that # is used for special tags or comments, but how do I play e.g. "Gymnopedie #3.mp3"? I've tried ##, '#, (backslash, dammit!)# to no effect and I can't find the answer in the specs anywhere.

Accented characters are an issue as well, but I suspect this is a command-line vs Windows mismatch somewhere.

ETA: %23 Duh! Sometimes I overcomplicate things....

Lots of reasons, including my backups.

Anyway, %23 works for '#'
