Possibly because I only use my computers to browse the web, write, scan and sort photos, and do the kind of math my grandfather did using a slide rule, a pencil, and the back of an envelope.

Can can you just buy it, or is it being released as a subscription service? I've heard good things about it, and having Microsoft is convenient in the world we live in, but I really object to yearly fees. I want an operating system, not a subscription.

But you do need a modern computer to install it.

Download the PC health check app to see if your system can run Windows 11.

I've heard that it would become mandatory in this version, and I won't install it if it does. No cloud services for me either.

But as I recall, you can make an offline account with the Pro version.

Cloud services are on by default, but can also be turned off.
