If you know anything about burning ISO iamages to disk, a few questions...

I was looking to burn an ISO image to CD on a WindowsXP machine, but the image file is 6.2 gb in size-- far too large to find its way onto a CD.

So I'm looking/researching two alternatives...
1. Burn the image to a flash drive; but as far as it seems, only Vista or newer Windows OS allows this: is that correct?
2. Use a Disk Spanning prog to chop the image into manageable sizes that may then be burned to multiple CDs; but my research is telling me that breaking up any ISO file renders the file unreadable. IS that correct?

Am I missing any other alternatives which do not require me to upgrade my OS, or upgrade my CD R/W drive to a DVD r/w/ drive?

Thanks in advance for any help... will be checking back throughout the day and over the weekend for any suggestions.
Again, thanks,
LW

8GB flash drives are priced between $7 and $15. On the other hand DVD writers are priced under $20. So it's not a big cost difference.

However, if you want to pursue the flash drive option: http://www.isotousb.com/

Best of luck.

or do you just want to mount it as a virtual disc?

I use Freeware MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM
http://www.magiciso.com/tutorials/miso-magicdisc-overview.htm

You can mount any iso image to a virtual CD/DVD device. It looks and behaves just like a physical drive.

MagicISO is da bomb. Get it if you need to mount a .iso file, it just works.

if it's to big to fit on a 4.5 G disk, you'll probably need to use a double layer disk.

Oops, missed the part where you don't have a DVD writer - never mind, sorry...

UltraISO can do this, and IINM so can WinRar, there are a lot of other programs as well, and then burn the files to separate CDs.

i have used Deamon tools lite for extracting and burning ISO images from/to CDs. Splitting an ISO does not necessary render it unusable if you use a dedicated too. Many freewares exist such as FileSplitter of HJsplit (I think this is a shareware though).
