Updated FireFox on Windows 11 and everything went to hell

Before update very seldom would I see ads, now I'm overloaded with them that it slows this old computer down.

Under settings in the FireFox menu I found this "All add-ons have been disabled by safe mode.
Adblock Plus - free ad blocker (disabled)
Block YouTube™ ads, pop-ups & fight malware!"

Disabled about 10 add-ons total.

Did internet search to turn back on, followed instructions and nothing came back on.

How do I opt out of personalized recommendations in the Add-ons Manager?

To turn off personalized recommendations in the Add-ons Manager:

Click the menu button Fx89menuButton and select Settings.
In the Privacy & Security panel, scroll down to Data Collection and Use and un-check the box that reads, Allow Firefox to make personalized extension recommendations.

Makes me wonder if what I clicked on to update FireFox was really from them, it had been popping up on my screen for about 2 weeks to update and finally hit update, now I wish I hadn't. How do I get Adblock Plus and the other ones up and doing their jobs again?
Thanks in advance, Mike

On Edit........
Forgot to mention below where it said " "All add-ons have been disabled by safe mode." and listed everything they turned off was this Recommended Extensions list, almost like they're promoting or selling something that does the same stuff that they just turned off. That's why I keep wondering if the update was really from FireFox.

Automatically, sort of. I never have popups for that. But I declined WIN11 notice yesterday. I'm not a fan. It's on one laptop and I don't kike it at all.

I hope you find a remedy!

Sometimes you have to start over. Maybe after you reinstall it will pull your exisitng profile from your computer. There might be an option to keep your profile/data when you uninstall Firefiox

I like Firefox and all, but I wouldn't go through all that grief to use it.

Never heard of Vivaldi, in your opinion what makes it better than Firefox?

so there aren't any oddball issues coming up, but its main feature is its incredible adaptability. There are so many ways to customize to exactly what you want. Been using it for years.

You should be using a chromium based browser, Firefox is garbage, always has been, always will be.

What do you want or need in a browser?

Found out to get out of "safe mode" all I had to do was quit FireFox and restart the computer.
Will look into these Chrome based browsers.

A lot of incorrect information about Firefox in this post thread.

From your post it appears you were using the Adblock Plus extension in Firefox prior to the Firefox update. You said it was disabled after the update. Adblock Plus is an extension designed to block ads on websites. An extension is from a third party developer, not from Firefox/Mozilla. If it is disabled ads won't be blocked. Go into Tools/Addons and Themes and re enable it and your ads should once again be blocked.

Oh, BTW, you mentioned Firefox is running in safe mode. Of course Firefox would disable extensions like Adblock Plus in safe mode. Run Firefox in normal mode and your Adblock Plus extension should work.

Vivaldi is another web browser. Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, Edge etc are all software programs that are in the category of "web browsers". Vivaldi was created by former Opera developers. Opera is another web browser.

Firefox is NOT garbage. Its one of the best web browsers out right now and has been for years. Firefox respects user privacy and security, uses far less system resources, and is far more stable than many other web browsers especially when compared with web browsers from companies like Microsoft and Google.
