Figuring out Google and Gmail

After my sbcglobal account was hacked I am without a fully functioning email app. I have the Samsung app, Yahoo and Gmail. Gmail is the only one I can sign into. I've given up after weeks of trying. I dont want to pay. Can anybody recommend a free email app for Android?

Every one I've tried does.

IF you need another email account.

Ask your friends who might have a comcast account.
Each account owner gets 6 email addresses to use.
Access it via browser or any email app that uses IMAP (they all do)

Also, you can get an email account with Apple. It works via the web or IMAP (Which every mail app supports)
Free https://www.icloud.com/mail
You'll need an Apple ID. I didn't see any restriction. https://appleid.apple.com/account
Worst case, borrow some old ipod (I have one that needs reinstallation, and who doesn't? )
Any email app or browser can access your email account.
You'll get 5GB of free storage (whoppee)

*IMAP is a protocol that all mail apps use nowadays.
All email providers also let you log in to your email via browser

* IIRC means "If I recall Correctly"

You can also use a throwaway email address at getnada.com
If some site wants your email address in order to get a file, create one, get your file, and forget it.
Junk will come pouring in, but if you don't go get it, it just gets deleted after a month.

Just to find out what kind of operation they are, for example an ISP. Found some interesting reading about their mail system and why it now goes through yahoo. Now, are you 100% sure you were hacked because it sounds like you have just got caught up in their internal malarkey.

Have a read of this article. https://www.mytechreviewer.com/what-is-sbcglobal-net/
There is a graphic of server settings on this page, both incoming and outgoing. None of it is very intuitive. For example sbcglobal uses POP3 protocol, which is when the mail is downloaded to your device and does NOT stay on the server.....BUT it also uses Yahoo.com which as far as I know is IMAP (where the mail stays on the server until you delete it, so that it's available to other devices).

So when you say "...a free email app for android" that's not really what you're looking for. It seems like you need an email provider. Once you have an email account with a provider, you then need an app of some sort to read your email ie. connect to your mail provider and open your mail.

In that regard, Gmail is the most widely used. Personally I hate it but have an account for emergency use under a pseudonym. Gmail works well with android, because ...Google. Maybe you need to set up a new account and start from scratch.

Here's a list of free email providers, but maybe you can get your old account going with the info on the first link. Good luck.

It's a combination of issues. As a former AT&T customer our personal info is out there. We were informed vis snail mail. And as sbcglobal is old, I received an email telling me to sign into the new Yahoo app - currently.att.yahoo on May 4th. I did this after checking to see if it was legit. Im still not convinced it is. After that I couldn't get back into my email. I could see in sent items 136 of my contacts were told I had a broken femur and needed money. So it was shut down until last week. But it still doesn't work properly. No new mail since May 6. There is an account with my name attached to hotmail that I didn't create.

I did my best to alert friends and began using the Gmail account I've had for about 12 years. But I'm not keen on it. Still hoping for a way to retrieve my old address and receive email.

You can see that pop.att.yahoo.com is legitimate, so at least that's something. Did you try to configure mail using these settings?

I've changed passwords countless times. But there is another account attached via Yahoo app. Again with a scam...

There are a few people with that name in the US - I found a couple on Spokeo, both in their 70s. One of them was born around 1945 -46 (or is a trumpista). This message could be something sent from or to one of these.

This whole business is seeming increasingly like a gigantic SNAFU, rather that a hack. It must be a pain for you, not getting your mail - I see from your other posts how long it's been and how much spam you receive. I don't really know what else to say except hang in there.
