"Unable to transfer files" - annoying pop-up. Dates back to trying to link android to laptop.
Several months ago I was venturing outside of my Low Tech comfort zone, trying to link the phone and the What'sApp to the laptop. All a hassle that barely, sort-of worked but too much trouble with no real need for that since I don't take the laptop anywhere.
All that was long gone and out of mind until recently when a Pop-up started up, "Unable to transfer files." At first I made no connection what it was referring to. It would pop-up with a Close button, and after 2-3 times of the button, it would go away. Finally did the Google due diligence and peeps with answers said to go to Settings, then phone things and click Terminate-Repair-Reset. Fine, but only Repair was enabled, did that and the pop-up keeps coming at Startup. More Googling and an answer was to go to Task Manager and remove phone something. Did that and no dice, pop-up keeps coming.
*** Solutions, anyone? Thanks.

(2,839 posts)Obviously, you could go back, regarding the files, etc.
Did you update via Microsoft. Sometimes they fix file threads..etc. (Yeah Fix, my ass)

(20,293 posts)Whatever is producing the popup seems to be running in the background on your machine. Before fixing, or turning it off, you need to identify exactly what it is.
Did you install anything when you were trying to get things working? Any software connected with the Android? Next time you see the popup, try going straight into task manager (right click on taskbar, select Task Manager) With a bit of luck it will appear near the top in either Apps or Background Processes.
Another way of identifying it is to look at the left hand column in Task Manager. It's a menu that lists "Processes, Performance, App History, Startup Apps ......" and so on. Click on Startup Apps and check what's in the list. There should be no more than three or four Startup apps enabled. See if anything looks likely and disable it by right clicking - Disable.
I'll leave it there for now, while you still have your sanity. But remember - it probably wont be hard to disable it, but first you need to know what's causing it.

(77,074 posts)And clicking on Start only had another Start under it. And Start Experieces App only has MicrosoftStqartFeedProvider.
As for what's at the top, only Google Chrome and Task Manager. Nothing that sounds like android.

(77,074 posts)but clicking on it and Ending Task makes the popup disappear but then it comes back.
Thanks for the constructive suggestions!

(20,293 posts)The popup, i'd venture, is reappearing because the app is running in the background, sucking up your precious memory and CPU cycles.
Is anything showing in the SysTray - the spot on the taskbar right hand side where the clock is? If you click on the little arrow, it will show you which system apps are running. You may be able to identify it and stop it from running when you start up.
