Granny has a Java question.

Since I'm bound to mess this upgrade up, should I just go to add/remove and remove the whole thing? Not sure what Java does anyway.

I'm never sure what some of the instructions mean. Just paid to have this thing fixed, can't afford it again.

Why is there no simple link that will just update and not bother me with all the baloney. Any ideas where this simpleton can do this fix without trouble?

Have Java 7 Update 9

1. Simplest way is to click on "Update Now" button in the Java Control panel/ Update tab...

You're on Windows XP IIRC, no?

Start> Control Panel> Java Applet> Update tab> Click Update Now
Here's what you SHOULD see, just follow the prompts.

The Java Update(red square). I clicked on Update Now on the larger pane.

Don't know if it did what it was supposed to do but Java7 Update 9 still shows. At the base of the Java Control panel it says," Java update was last run at 9:39 on 1/14/13."

Can I assume the job was done?
Thanks

What Java Update red square????

"but Java7 Update 9 still shows"

Where does it "show"? Please try to be more specific. Can you post screenshots, that would be most helpful.

Thank You
EBM

IMPORTANT EDIT: Did you click Install button in the small "Java Update- Update Available" dialogue box that shows in the lower right corner of my screenshot in post #1?

I updated from the first screen that appeared were it says update now.

Please understand that I am probably older than your grandmother so sometimes I screw up. The box with the red square did not show.
I cannot seem to make a screen shot. Lost my instructions.

This machine runs XP sp3.
Just the Java Control panel shows, not Java Update(w/red square).
When I check 'verify version, it shows, "Java (TM) platform SE 7U

I myself am pretty durn close to social security eligibility, live in a 55 & over community & house and am PCG to my sweet 87 yr young Mom.

When I check 'verify version, it shows, "Java (TM) platform SE 7U

What comes after SE 7U____ is of course crucial in determining what version you have and if it is up-to-date. Without that information I'm afraid I can't offer any further assistance.

Hope you can sort things out.

Here: http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp

And report your findings, a screenshot would be best but PRECISE details would be almost as good.
