printer help needed

lexmark printer z816
just changed the black ink cart.
printed fine for about a page then started leaving letters, numbers, pieces of letters unprinted
it was a new cartridge
so i put the old one back in and it did a realignment and make a weird clicking sound
then it was printing the same weird way with the old cart.

any suggestions?

...my Brother does this. Having it clean itself usually fixes it. Sometimes it needs a couple cleanings.

that may give you some insights on what it's doing, and maybe let you tweak something. It may have some suggestions on how to resolve your problem.
