<s>Free</s>Window 7 downloads?
Last edited Fri Sep 20, 2013, 01:52 PM - Edit history (1)
I have Windows 8, and hate it. I'm not a hacker (I wish I had the know how though) but I'm also not a newbie Luddite who hates change.
So: 1) I don't want to buy it.
2) I don't know if I can find Win 7 users. ***
3) Do you know of safe sites to download it?
4)Should I install Win 7 drivers before downloading 7?
What do the experts here recommend?
*** I may start poking around and asking. There must be someone I know who has it.
Thank you all for the information!

Yes, it will cost money, but it will probably save you trouble in the long run.

(8,209 posts)just spend the bucks, there's a lot of free stuff on the web, but a windows OS is not one I would look for for free.
Really, the OS "is" the computer! I wouldn't mess with it.

(564 posts)And save Windows 8 too. I emailed Microsoft telling them Win is a Rube Goldberg machine. :p
Do you recommend buying it or downloading it from a friends computer?
Pharaoh
(8,209 posts)buy it from them and let them install it.
That's what I would do.
I'm pretty computer literate, but it's less hassle to let the experts do it.

I would go to the manufacturer's support site and download the drivers for 7 and save them on a flash drive.
The fun part will be getting the win 8 computer to boot from another OS. The UEFI BIOS is locked to 8 unless you know how to unlock it-it is deliberately made difficult.

(564 posts)Toshiba does have Win 7 drivers so I'm in luck.
I may have to find someone to unlock win 8. I don't have much patience.

It needs Windows 7 files. They are available in this Free download from Microsoft: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=199583
download and uncompress the SP1 files before you runt he installer.
You will be given a choice to skip metro altogether. You will have a Win 7 interface and all the "under the hood" improvements of Win 8. This is reversible, too.
