Connectivity issue, WiFi, XP Sp2

I recently fixed a log on log off loop by using an offline registry editor, following a tutorial on another laptop.

So I cant get on the wifi @home, I also tried burning XP SP3 to a CD, but the resurrected laptop doesnt know who wrote the disc, then I tried burning an Image...iso.part to CD, inserted in laptop, same deal.

I used to get the message "Acquiring network addres"s on the wireless window. But after doing what is described below it says I'm connected.....

Using command prompt, CMD, I entered ping 127.0.0.1 -4 packets sent - 4 received.

ipconfig/release

then

ipconfig/renew

ipconfig returns 169.254.248.36 which is Washington DC.

It should be in Connecticut: IP block start: 24.151.125.0

when I open up firefox it cant find the server. This laptop and my droid phone use the wifi no problem.

Any thoughts?
