My taskbar (for volume, battery, connection) has suddenly gone from horizontal to vertical.

I must have hit a button that controls this inadvertently. I've tried rebooting to no avail, and I also looked up solutions online but have not found anything that worked. This is Windows 7. If anyone has an idea how I can make this go back to "normal", I would really appreciate it, because this is making the viewing space much smaller.

and appear in a column at the lower right, under the viewing area, where they always were except they were previously horizontal. I do appreciate both of you trying to help me.

Right-click on the task bar, and make sure 'Lock the taskbar' is unchecked.

Then, click-hold on the top edge of the bar (where the pointer changes to an up-down arrow) and drag down. Recheck 'Lock the taskbar if desired...

If so, grab the top edge by mousing over it and left-clicking and holding the mouse button, then drag at as far down to the bottom of the screen as you can and let go of the mouse button.

Once you get the taskbar is how you want it, right-click an empty area of the taskbar and choose Lock the taskbar.

If what I described above is not the problem, you should probably do a screen capture and post it so we can see what you are seeing.

Thanks so much, and thanks as well to the others who took the time to try to help.
(And I'm embarrassed to admit that I don't know how to do a screen capture, so I'm glad it didn't get to that point)

As evidenced by post #6 and #7.

Glad you got the taskbar issue sorted out.

For easy screen captures, check out the Snipping Tool in Windows.
